Summer Fun

The Boomerang Express departed Lee Road after the kids learned about Peter's Challenge when he denied Jesus, Peter's Mission when he received Jesus' forgiveness and Peter's Obedience as he told others about Jesus.

The next stop was Tazewell, VA where a team from Lee Road led a VBS for Crosspointe Community Fellowship. We had a great time doing VBS for a second week in a row and reliving the motions to the music and hearing the Bible stories again. Some of the kids from Lee Road went and were a tremendous help! They really lived out what they learned in VBS. You are never too young to make a difference when you are obedient to what God leads you to do!

The train has arrived back at Lee Road in the form of a weekly VBS for the grade school kids in the summer program at our Child Development Center. They are really enjoying the material and have a lot of excitement and questions.

We will have a couple of activities for the different age groups later in the summer, so stay tuned for more information!

VBS: All Aboard!

We kicked off VBS on Sunday evening. The group that worked since March to prepare the musical did a tremendous job. John King built the train engine and went beyond expectations for it. The teachers have also done a wonderful job with their room decorations.

Topping it off is a great group of kids that are excited to be in VBS and are full of energy. They are doing a great job bringing in pennies to support the VBS Mission trip to Tazewell, Virginia. The youngest among us are in the lead after the first count: K4 and K5 are setting the standard. There is a long way to go though!

The first two days we have learned about Peter's invitation to follow Christ and his discovery about faith. Check back for what the kids learn tonight in track 3 and enjoy the pictures from the opening celebration!

Boomerang Express

With VBS starting on Sunday, June 14, this week marks "prep week" as rooms and hallways will begin the transformation process. Our engine is being built to anchor our decor in the sanctuary. We had a team prayer walk the facility on June 6 and we have another team doing community canvassing tonight to pass out flyers and door hangers. We have had our workers in place for some time with material in hand, so when Sunday rolls around, all we have to do is greet the kids-hopefully.

A group of children have been working hard to prepare the VBS musical to present on Sunday evening and we can't wait to see it. We hope as many of you as possible can make it for VBS 2009!

VBS in March?

You can REGISTER for VBS 2009!

I know it seems a bit early, but we are really excited about VBS 2009! There will be lots of information coming your way in the next weeks and months leading up to June 14, so be sure to check leeroad.com and our blog for the latest on Boomerang Express. In the mean time, I have added some pictures from the VBS Preview Clinic that was held at Ridgecrest Conference Center in Ridgecrest, NC. It will give you a little taste of the Outback and what we hope to do with VBS here at Lee Road.

Here is what you need to do, pray for VBS NOW. While you pray for the teachers, the workers, the children and families, be open to any direction you receive on your involvement with VBS 2009. Things happen when you pray. The next thing you need to do is tell Dawn Allnatt that you want to help in some way, decorating, teaching, assisting teachers, recreation, prayer support, transportation, etc… After that, prepare to attend the annual VBS Clinic at Lee Road on April 21. Yes, your church is hosting this huge event! How exciting is that?

My goal for Lee Road is to see as many people involved in VBS 2009 as possible. Sunday school classes can hold days of prayer where you visit the classrooms and pray for the teachers and children that will be in them. You can bring in items for our snack team, you can help teachers decorate, you can help with VBS follow up, you can hold a mini VBS during Sunday school one morning, you can help feed the volunteers during VBS, the possibilities are endless.

Into 2009

2009 is well underway and things are moving forward here at Lee Road. Planning is underway for our annual VBS event. We will be using LifeWay's Boomerang Express: It all comes back to Jesus. LifeWay has once again come up with a great resource and the kids will love it! It may seem a bit early to talk about VBS, but excitement is running high.

Other planning on the horizon is for our annual Children's Day with the Pastor. We are exploring different options to find what would be the best opportunity for a great time of fun and fellowship.

Worship KidStyle continues to open up opportunities to teach new lessons and spark intrigue as we travel through the Old Testament this quarter. It is amazing to hear some of the questions the Bible stories prompt. While the stories and characters don't change, we should as we learn about the importance of obedience and respect.

Stay tuned for more of whats to come as we travel through 2009 together!
